ZI PGR Research Training Support Grant

Amount of Grant: £1200 per student given at the start of years 1, 2, and 3. Year 2 and 3 provision is subject to timely and successful completion of year 1 and year 2 progress report stages.

Administration of Grant: The grant associated with each student will appear in the primary supervisor’s Agresso page in a separate named account. The primary supervisor controls the spend.

Use of Grant:

  • Computer “uplift” costs – if the primary supervisor believes that the student requires a PC of higher specification than the standard iSolutions offering then they may use the RSTG to pay for this. This cost would normally occur at the beginning of the studentship.
  • Conference travel – the primary supervisor may use the RTSG to pay the conference expenses of their student as long as the student is presenting a paper or poster at the conference.
  • Summer School – the primary supervisor may use the RTSG to pay for the student to attend a summer school.
  • Other – the primary supervisor may use the RTSG to pay for small-value consumables used for the students research work or training needs.

    Conditions of Grant:

  • Students and supervisors must ensure that they fully complete the year 1 progress report stage within 12 months in order to receive the year 2 RTSG.
  • Students and supervisors must ensure that they fully complete the year 2 progress report stage within 24 months in order to receive the year 3 RTSG.
  • Unspent money remains in the students RTSG account until the end of the studentship, after which it is returned to Faculty control.

Once the RTSG has been spent any further expenses for conference travel etc. become the responsibility of the supervisor to find funding for.

Exceptions: Project students (including EU) and DTC students are not covered by this policy as their funding is provided by the grant associated with their studentships. Students with a full 4 years of funding for their studentships will also receive an RTSG of £1200 in year 4.
